Most likely if you have your own personal Linux installation, it is Ubuntu. Several seismic software packages (ObsPy, MSNoise, SeisComP3) will install a lot easier on Ubuntu than other variants of Linux. The one exception is Antelope, which is supported only on Red Hat Linux.
